Continuing with their ‘Made in Manchester’ series of Mozart concertos in Stoller Hall, Manchester Camerata turn to the horn concertos with soloist Martin Owen. 

The French horn is the real winner in Bremen as Ben Goldscheider continues to expand the horn repertoire and bring his instrument to a wider audience. 

Sir Roger Norrington's all-Mozart feast was a joyous evening dedicated solely to playing as the composer and his audience would have recognised it. His affable introduction and the OAE's superb playing made a splendid evening.

The BBC's Ten Pieces project culminates in a spectacular Proms event, some of it confusing for adults, but all well-received by the children.

If Mozart were to apply for a job in this day and age, at the very top of his CV would read “Adaptable and able to turn my hand to any task”.

After the overture, whose two movements, fast and slow, were adequately dispatched by a suitably small orchestra, the audience mistook the arrival of an orchestral horn player as that of the soloist himself, and burst into applause, which turned to laughter as the mistake became obvious.

I have to confess that an event like this is not within my normal musical radar. My music reviewing and listening is predominantly serious classical, and most of it is for a specialist part of that wide repertoire. So it was a slightly brave, or foolhardy, idea to offer to review one of these musical spectaculars at my local castle.
