Featuring some of the composer's most ravishing and astonishing music, Tamerlano is one of Handel's most powerful psychological dramas that explores the extremes of human nature which remain as power today. This gripping opera recounts the story of the defeated Ottoman sultan Bajazet and his daughter Asteria, ensnared in a web of love, loyalty, and power struggles with the ruthless conqueror Tamerlano.
Award-winning director Orpha Phelan makes her Baroque opera directorial debut, leading an exceptional cast. Musical Director and world- leading Handelian Laurence Cummings makes his hotly anticipated return to the LHF, joined in the pit by his ensemble, the Academy of Ancient Music.
