Lyric Opera of Chicago's production of Missy Mazzoli's opera, which the company co-commissioned, has strong, dramatic, expressive music throughout, but the story lacks continuity. 

The new opera by Missy Mazzoli and Royce Vavrek draws on cult mindsets and conspiracy theories but smartly avoids sensationalism. 

Thaddeus Strassberger proposed a mise-en-scène where the story is reenacted in Tamara’s confused mind while she is confined in a monastery.
