Werk: Fantasy Sonata for Clarinet and Piano

James Gilchrist and Royal Northern Sinfonia conjure up the hills of Yeats' Ireland and Housman's Shropshire in a Late Mix concert at Sage Gateshead.

This was a fine demonstration of the fact that the Three Choirs Festival is not just about singing. Nor is it confined to the cathedral, as this morning’s recital took place in the elegance of Hereford’s Shirehall.

Clarinetist Peter Cigleris teamed up with pianist Martin Cousin for a wonderful lunchtime break. Peter Cigleris studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire and the Royal College of Music, and has performed in many venues across Europe premièring several new works for the clarinet. With a tone and technical ability to impress, he performed on a Peter Eaton Elite clarinet made for him in 2001.
