Britten's Cello Symphony and a no-holds-barred account of Shostakovich’s mighty Tenth Symphony at Snape Maltings

Prophecies and apocalyptic visions were on the programme as part of the London Philharmonic's Be Moved season.

Marek Janowski has been the chief conductor of the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra since 2002. This concert of Beethoven, Britten and Dvořák found both conductor and orchestra on find form. 

Cellist Louisa Tuck and the Royal Northern Sinfonia, with guest conductor Paul Watkins, deliver a lyrical and coherent interpretation of Britten's complex Cello Symphony.

One of the key points underlying Southbank Centre’s epic festival The Rest is Noise is to place 20th-century music in its historical context, to show that this music – which might otherwise be considered intimidating – is more than just abstract sounds.

Concluding their concert run in the Barbican, Michael Tilson Thomas, Yo-Yo Ma and the London Symphony Orchestra presented a programme of works by Copland, Shostakovich and Britten. The musicians’ partnership was undoubtedly a successful one, with a completely sold-out Barbican.
