Tenor Ian Bostridge and pianist Julius Drake presented a stunning program of Lieder by Robert Schumann (1810-1856) and his protégé Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) on 7 March at the Perelman Theater of the Kimmel Center, as part of the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society’s fine series. The small hall, nearly full, lent itself perfectly to the intimate performance of Lieder.

I greatly anticipated the New York debut concert of two new European stars, cellist Gautier Capuçon and pianist Gabriela Montero. Both are artists of great passion and intensity, and they chose a program of works that reflected their myriad gifts – one mid-20th century, one early Romantic, and the last, late Romantic in style.

To say that the diminutive Mr Kadouch is a very gifted young pianist with a brilliant technique and a bright future is an understatement. The program overall was very well-played.

American organist Stephen Tharp presented the third and final concert of the complete works of Jeanne Demessieux at the Cathedral of St John the Divine on Sunday 24 October.Jeanne Demessieux (1921-1968), a student of Marcel Dupré, is regarded as the greatest organ virtuoso of the 20th century.

October 14th marked the highly-anticipated debut concert for Trinity Church’s new Director of Music and the Arts, conductor/composer Dr Julian Wachner, with the Trinity Choir and the Trinity Baroque Orchestra.
