Music, art and nature in perfect union: Clyne’s kaleidoscope of colour, and Strauss’ mountainous symphony.

Experience the vibrancy of the symphony orchestra in a concert of colours and timbres. Anna Clyne’s ‘Palette’ is an exploration of art and music: how they intertwine, what qualities they share, and what they express when they speak to each other. Across its seven five-minute movements, Clyne investigates colours, both artistic and musical, with soloists across the orchestra taking the spotlight. This multi-sensory, multi-media work is the perfect complement to the other piece in this programme. For when Richard Strauss goes big, he goes really big. His Alpine Symphony is bold and – in the best musical sense – brassy, and as monumental as the Alps. It begins and ends, however, in meditative calm: suitably awestruck by the landscape.
