Trpčeski and Hindoyan reunite for Latino fire, Iberian flair and melodic French flourish. The spirit of traditional Andalusian music is alive in Turina’s poetic suite, a cornerstone of Spanish musical nationalism. Rhythms and melodies from the Basque region light up Ravel’s jazzinfluenced Piano Concerto in G, then contrasted by his unique and compelling take on the Viennese waltz – La Valse. Informed by the horrors Ravel witnessed during the First World War, the piece starts off mysteriously calm, descending into a nightmarish dance with death, but ending in an incredibly uplifting way.
