Mendelssohn's Italian

A programme of bold musical storytelling featuring Sinfonia Smith Square and musicians from the Academy of St Martin in the Fields.  

Darkly theatrical, vivacious, and bold, Mozart’s Overture to Don Giovanni launches the concert in dramatic style. Ruth Gipps’ Seascape follows, a musical portrait of shifting tides, windswept coastlines, and broad horizons.  

Scored for string orchestra, Punctum weaves fragments of early music into a work that feels both timeless and quietly contemporary, before Mendelssohn’s ‘Italian’ Symphony closes the concert with sparkling melodies and dancing rhythms.
