On your marks, get set, go! With great joy, we are kicking off our new season, in which we will be offering our dear Bamberg audiences lots of musical events based on this season's theme. And, of course, we start in a festive mood with an exciting opening concert which beautifully expresses the “joy of playing”: The Old High German word “Spil” refers to dancing and therefore to physical activity. So it will be a lively start under the baton of our honorary conductor Manfred Honeck, accompanied by the Bamberg Cathedral Children's Choir and soprano Jasmin Delfs, with a programme focusing on the 200th birthday of Johann Strauss (son). In his day, Vienna was in the midst of a veritable dance mania, despite warnings from doctors about “life-threatening vertigo.” But none of that helped – and the court ball director and so-called “Waltz King”, who often fiddled with a violin in front of the musicians, was convinced: “When I play the violin, even the chicks dance in their eggs!” However, it was not only the three-four time that set the tone back then, but also other catchy dances such as the wonderful polka and the melodies and songs from operettas. In addition to a selection from Johann Strauss’s extensive oeuvre, there are just as impressive works penned by his contemporaries – and we are looking forward to this magnificent start to our new season!

Tickets: from 25.08.2025 10 a.m.
