Jubilant Eastern European folk music, swinging Latin American rhythms and toe-tapping jazz – this is Sir Simon Rattle’s most ambitious programme yet.

Classical music is a patchwork of influences, a melting pot of many different histories and worlds of sound – united in a unique programme to indulge your wanderlust. Journey through the folk influences of Bartόk’s distinct Hungarian voice, steeped in the joys and traditions of village life, and Szymnanowski’s dreamlike vision of the Polish Tatra Mountains.

We then look to urban inspiration with works from across the Atlantic. Sway along to jazz-infused showstoppers written for Woody Herman and his band, Stravinsky’s Ebony Concerto and Bernstein’s Prelude, Fugue and Riffs – rhythmic, sultry works – and be transported to warmer climates with the infectious tango rhythms, blasting trumpets and percussive piano of Golijov’s native Argentina.
