About the festival
104 years of the Mozartfest Würzburg: a classical music festival with tradition. But Mozart in Würzburg is more than just concerts performed in the Residenz. His music also finds its place in the present-day lives of the curious, those who like to experiment and those discovering Classical music for the first time. It’s the inspirational interaction that’s exciting. So it’s not infrequently the dialogue between the old and the new that makes classical music a contemporary art-form. 

Mozart for all - music as a moment that creates community: the Mozartfest always offers new formats for classical music with its finger on the pulse of the times. Over 90 concerts shed light on Mozart under the motto “But through sound: friend Mozart.

Festival programmes

38 international orchestras and ensembles and over 70 renowned solo artists will make Würzburg the city of Mozart for the 104th year from May 23 to June 22. In addition to the Artistes ètoiles Nils Mönkemeyer and William Youn, Daniel and Andreas Ottensamer, Christiane Karg, Sabine Meyer, Martin Fröst, Ivor Bolton and others can be heard at the World Cultural Heritage Site Residenz Würzburg. Also orchestras from Copenhagen, Prague, Amsterdam, Munich, Basel and Finland will bring Mozart's music to the present day in the ambience of magnificent baroque halls for an unforgettable evening.

Festival venues

Monasteries, castles, parks and even the lovely hilly landscape of Lower Franconia play a part in the Mozartfest. In the meeting of cultural heritage and natural spectacle, an entire region becomes the unmistakable protagonist. 

The Mozartfest Würzburg takes place on more than 30 stages. The main venue is the Würzburg Residenz World Cultural Heritage Site.

Dress code

With 90 concert events ranging from a top classical gala in the Kaisersaal of the Residenz to a casual evening serenade in the Hofgarten, the dress code should be adapted to the event. 

Visitors are free to choose whether to wear a smart evening dress or smart daywear.

Food & drink

Whether it's a restaurant, a beer garden or a café, you'll be spoilt for choice if you want to stop off before or after the concert. You can play it safe by making a reservation. 

At the symphony concerts in the Residenz, a selection of drinks and amuse-gueules are available.
