As Main Guest Conductor at the London Symphony Orchestra, François-Xavier Roth is one of the rare French maestros to have a hugely successful international career.

He is regularly called in by the Berlin Philharmonic, and this is his third appearance at the Easter Festival, leading The Gürzenich Orchestra of Cologne where he has been General Director of Music since 2015, with his customary infectious energy.

Alongside his expert choir, he brings us a concert-version performance of The Flying Dutchman, the first masterpiece produced by a young Richard Wagner who revolutionised opera by breaking with the air-narrative dichotomy, bringing more fluidity to the drama and the melodic line.
