The Philadelphia Orchestra's concert also served as a tribute to Michael Tilson Thomas, who was to have conducted the performance before withdrawing for cancer treatment.

Yannick Nézet-Séguin smartly surrounds a guaranteed crowd-pleaser – Brahms’ First Piano Concerto – with less familiar works by Julia Wolfe and Louise Farrenc.
