The Solent Symphony Orchestra, ably conducted by Steve Tanner, presented an exciting programme in the resonant acoustics of Portsmouth Cathedral. The Smetana Bartered Bride Overture and Dances set the atmosphere of the evening with energetic performances all round.These were followed by a rhapsodic account of the Ravel Piano Concerto in G.
What a thrill it was to experience the recent production of Puccini's powerful opera at The Coliseum. Directed by Catherine Malfitano, herself a great Tosca, and conducted by Edward Gardner the performance gripped the packed auditorium throughout. The large orchestra responded magnificently to the maestro's direction adding considerably to the drama.
