The programme had been changed. No Montsalvatge, but this gave space for a lovely performance of Grieg's varied and characterful Haugtussa (Maid of the Mountain) cycle. Both performers had clearly worked at it intently, and took us with great authority through its twists and turns. The Larsson songs must be some of the strangest lyrics ever set.

Anna Grevelius is not just an opera singer going through the paces. She's a real song recitalist. She has a very special way of living a song, living in a song, living through a song. She makes every shift in vocal colour, every flickering facial expression count. Julius Drake gave himself a work-out, particularly going for it in Mendelssohn's Hexenlied, taken at ferocious speed.

In all this was just a lovely hour of music. When's her next one?
