Love songs and midnight thunder – Tchaikovsky at his warmest meets a symphony of iron and steel.
Prokofiev’s Sixth Symphony tells of a life-anddeath struggle, but in Stalin’s Russia, even the most stirring masterpiece could carry a darker meaning. Our guest conductor Dmitri Slobodeniouk will bring out its triumph and terror, as well as the raw emotion of Martinu’s wartime lament, and – a magical contrast – Tchaikovsky’s gloriously tuneful Volin Concerto.
