Hugo Wolf’s darkly romantic music features in the first half of the concert, which has a through-line of songs about the night. Henri Duparc’s songs are romantic and intimate, and the afternoon finishes with music from four British musical legends, including the incredibly beautiful King David by Herbert Howells, once described by Sarah Connolly as ‘the greatest British Art Song ever written’.
