Join members of the Amadeus Orchestra in one of Stravinsky’s best loved works, The Soldier’s Tale. The work relates the parable of the Soldier who trades his violin to the devil for vast economic gain only to find that he has in fact sold his soul to the devil. Alastair King’s Dance marathon was an Amadeus commission for their 2000 tour of India which needed another dramatic work to sit alongside The Soldier’s Tale with the same instrumentation. The music is all based on jazz idioms and brings alive the craze of the Dance Marathon which was all the rage in America in the 20s, in which couples danced for hours on end for a large reward.
