The Philharmonia pulls out all the stops for a season finale packed with energy, excellence, and copious amounts of drama.

Things get off to a vibrant start in Louise Farrenc’s concert overture – a seven-minute orchestral workout with many a catchy melody on the way. Celebrated in her lifetime for her music of power and poise, an acclaimed concert pianist and internationally renowned composer, Farrenc was the only woman professor at the Paris Conservatoire in the whole of the 19th century.

Then comes Mendelssohn’s only Violin Concerto with Korean soloist Bomsori Kim, a superstar in her homeland. Lyrical and virtuosic in equal measure, it’s a pinnacle of the classical repertoire and has long been one of the best-loved works in the concert hall.

After the interval, experience the full force of the Philharmonia sound in Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony: a powerful exploration of the meaning of life. From deceptively simple melodies, Tchaikovsky builds a spellbinding forty minutes of high emotional drama. What better way to send off the season?
