Nikola Meeuwsen is a master of Prokofiev's Second Piano Concerto, with which he convincingly won the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2025.
The young pianist Nikola Meeuwsen (2002) became the first Dutch musician ever to win the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition. During the final round of the competition, he delivered a commanding interpretation of Piano Concerto No. 2 by Sergei Prokofiev, a work renowned for its energy and virtuosity. According to NRC, “In the gigantic solo cadenza of the first movement, Meeuwsen channelled his astonishing power into profound emotional depths and a rare understanding of Prokofiev’s musical architecture.” This is the kind of performance that truly deserves to be experienced live – and this Matinee offers exactly that opportunity.
