Soprano Sabine Devieilhe’s first recital in Barcelona promises an evening of vocal artistry and pure emotion. A leading star the French repertoire, Devieilhe will delight audiences with her radiant voice and poetic approach that finds the lied to be a channel for shared and deeply personal feelings. Indeed, far from being a genre for experts, here the lied will transform into an accessible form featuring brief, intense stories, retold with a wide range of nuances. At her side, pianist Mathieu Pordoy will interact, breathe and create evocative atmospheres with delicate colours in a programme primarily focused on reclaiming and normalising the high-quality repertoire of songs and lieder by female composers from the Romantic period to the early 20th century, including Fanny Mendelssohn, Mel Bonis, Marguerite Canal and Alma Mahler. With them, Franz Liszt’s intensity and Claude Debussy’s Impressionist sensuality will round off a journey bringing together immediate beauty, expressive daring and discovery.
