Two of today’s most thrilling composers join forces. Jennifer Walshe and Philip Venables did it all together: they wrote the libretto, composed the music and directed the performance. The Alonetimes is a touching, witty collage of personal stories about memory, loneliness and belonging, performed by six versatile talents. In the words of Jennifer and Philip: ‘We will work through our shit from the past, put it to rest, and maybe feel a bit less alone.’
Although their work is very different, Walshe and Venables share a love of versatile music theatre and powerful narrative voices. Both have previously been guests at the Muziekgebouw. Venables delivered one of the standout performances of the 2024 Holland Festival with The Faggots and Their Friends Between Revolutions. Walshe impressed in 2022 with MARS for Klangforum Wien. With The Alonetimes they create a kaleidoscope of emotions and memories that will leave no one unmoved.
