Ishaan Gosh, the prodigy of Indian percussion

Gen Z is making its mark on Indian music. Ishaan Ghosh, grandson of the legendary Nikhil Ghosh, was traditionally trained on the tabla, a cornerstone of Indian percussion. However, he is not afraid to experiment, blending his sound with electronic dance music and traditional folk music from around the globe. Tonight, he is joined by performers who represent the very future of Indian music.

Ishaan Ghosh was hailed as a child prodigy as early as the age of seven. Now in his twenties, he collaborates with a diverse array of musicians, ranging from DJs to contemporary ensembles and musicians from Iran and Brazil. In 2024, he recorded a live album at Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ with his father, Nayan Ghosh – a sitar master known for his work with American minimalism pioneer Terry Riley.
