A deeply religious plea for forgiveness set to the most beautiful choral music. That is Arvo Pärt’s Kanon pokajanen. Even for the non-believer, the work is a spellbinding ninety-minute meditation. Following Cappella Amsterdam’s highly successful performance a few years ago, the Latvian Radio Choir now presents this masterpiece. You won’t find a more authentic window into Pärt’s world.

Arvo Pärt completed his Kanon pokajanen in 1997 for the 750th anniversary of the Cologne Cathedral. Pärt based it on the complete hymn of repentance from the Eastern Orthodox liturgy. He had already used parts of this hymn in earlier compositions, but setting the full text was an ‘extremely enriching experience’ for the composer. It doesn’t get more spiritual than the Kanon.
