Ariodante concludes the trilogy that emerged from the collaboration between the lautten compagney BERLIN under Wolfgang Katschner and the Milanese puppet theater Carlo Colla & Figli. First performed in 2022, the production brings Handel's Ariodante to the stage in a form that creates intimacy - reduced in expression, but powerful in effect. The story revolves around an engagement that threatens to be broken by intrigue and deception. Handel does not create a heroic drama in the classical sense, but rather dissects with great clarity the psychological fractures of a character who vacillates between self-doubt and loss of control. This fragility is made tangible in the marionette: the focus is not on strength, but on failure in one's own role. Ariodante shows how the seemingly impersonal nature of the puppet can create an even sharper image of masculinity.
