Discover an acclaimed partnership between two of early music’s leading artists, Nicolas Altstaedt and Thomas Dunford. Together, they perform two of J. S. Bach’s quintessential solo cello suites (including an original transcription for lute), selected pièces de viole by French Baroque composers Marais and Antoine Forqueray, Arvo Pärt’s Spiegel im Spiegel, and more. The well-known thrills of Bach’s cello suites—and the exacting nature of the pièces de viole (Marais’s pieces, in particular, are known for their detailed technical instructions)—offer a powerful contrast to Pärt’s deceptively sparse and revealing masterwork.
