In STHLM Blue Tide, we welcome what defies fixed categories – music and musicians that do not lend themselves easily to classification. Katrine Gislinge is one of the Nordic region’s most sensitive and poetic pianists, particularly admired for her refined touch and her ability to bring out the full palette of sound.

Her repertoire ranges from the core classical canon to contemporary music, and in this concert she moves through a nocturnal, dreamlike landscape in which Claude Debussy’s impressionistic piano world in Images is set alongside the Danish composer Bent Sørensen’s suite 12 Nocturnes.

There are also clear points of contact: both composers allow the music to emerge as sound and gesture rather than from clearly defined melodies. In Sørensen’s nocturnes, images of nature – water, light, darkness and stillness – recur not as descriptions, but as states of being. Debussy’s Images unfolds in beautifully shimmering and at times virtuoso soundscapes.

For this concert, Katrine Gislinge has created an evocative programme in which Sørensen’s nocturnes and Debussy’s Images form a continuous progression, from the concentrated stillness of night to the first light of morning.
