The boorish Baron Ripafratta enjoys the pleasures of good living, sport and the hunt. He certainly has no taste or time for women, who are best avoided and disdained. But staying for a visit in the inn of the feisty Mirandolina, he soon discovers what it’s like to be the hunter’s defenceless quarry. Expect hot chocolate, scrambled eggs and general mayhem as the arrogant Baron is reluctantly ‘educated’.

The Landlady derives from one of Goldoni’s finest and funniest plays, a sharp comedy of the battle of the sexes, which Salieri sets with his characteristic brilliance and wit. Bampton is delighted to present its fifth rarity by a composer who in his lifetime was performed across Europe, the respected teacher of Beethoven, Schubert and Liszt.
