Anthony McGill is one of today’s most celebrated instrumentalists, revered for both his musical sensitivity and brilliance and as a leading cultural voice. This event marks the second of three exclusive NYC concerts at 92NY this season.
Launched in summer 2025, Trio Afiori builds upon the collaboration of longtime recital partners McGill and Gloria Chien – a pianist of deep artistry and daring spirit – with the addition of the captivating Singaporean-British mezzo-soprano Fleur Barron, who returns to our stage following two unforgettable performances. Together, they are dedicated to exploring bold storytelling and cultural heritage through music. On the program: The NY premiere of works by Gabriel Kahane and Shawn Okpebholo, arrangements of two songs by Brahms, and an elegant gem in Saint-Saëns’ E-flat Major Clarinet Sonata. The program closes with Iranian-American composer Kian Ravaei’s Gulistan (Flower Garden) – a poignant song cycle based on Azerbaijani, Persian, American, and English folk music.
