Dutch National Opera Studio

Interview with the Head of Dutch National Opera Studio
« The beauty of my position is that I can still really enjoy the music and I can enjoy the human voice as a vehicle of expression, but without all the stress of having to do it myself. The energy levels I use to teach are as high as they were when I was on stage and I hope this vitality helps to inspire the young artists I work with. »

Audition repertoire

Singers need to present 3 opera arias of different styles, of which one Mozart aria is mandatory, while the others can be in different styles and languages.

Applicants should bring music of all their offered repertory for themselves and for the pianist.

Once the repertoire has been decided and sent to the Dutch National Opera, it can’t be changed.

Working in the Netherlands

There is no obligation to have permission to work in the NL in advance in order to apply for the Programme. If non-EEA applicants are offered a place on the Programme, the Dutch National Opera will apply for a “residence permit” which it will allow non-EEA studio members to live and work in NL.
