It is no exaggeration to say that Andrea Tarrodi is one of Sweden’s most fascinating and acclaimed composers. In April 2018, her music will be the focus of Konserthuset Stockholm's annually recurring Composer Weekend.

Andrea Tarrodi’s music has been heard several times before at Konserthuset, including at the concert in Grünewald Hall when Hanna Dahlkvist, cellist in the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra since 2015, pianist Anna Christensson and violinist Lola Torrente, orchestra member since 2015, performed piano trios by four female composers.

In Akacia from 2009, Andrea Tarrodi has taken inspiration from the dramatic landscape of the Swedish archipelago, as well as the sculptural form of the acacia tree. Two themes wind through the piece, occasionally emerging in the piano and occasionally in a dialogue between the cello and violin. Andrea Tarrodi herself has said of this piece, “Perhaps one also hears birds singing from the top of the acacia tree.”

Recorded February 2017.
