Biography

Born in Wales and brought up in Warwickshire, Julian Philips studied music at Emmanuel College Cambridge, and is one of Britain’s most versatile composers. He works extensively in the opera house, concert hall, theatre and ballet, and is a vital force in education, currently holding the position of Joint Head of Composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Philips recently completed a period as Composer in Residence at Glyndebourne Opera. He has been resident composer with the Orchestra of the Swan and his orchestral works have been performed at the Proms and at the Tanglewood Summer Music Festival. Philips is published by Peters Edition.
