Carnegie Hall celebrates the inimitable Steve Reich with a concert performed by the impeccable percussionists of the Colin Currie Group and Synergy Vocals. The program features the US premiere of Reich’s Traveler’s Prayer, a piece “unlike anything he has written before” (The Guardian), co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall. Rounding out a program that spans five decades are two of Reich’s most enduring pieces: Tehillim and Music for 18 Musicians, both exemplary of his distinctive blend of pinpoint rhythmic development and mesmerizing motifs that make him “the most original musical thinker of our time” (The New Yorker).
