| Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus (1756-1791) | Clarinet Concerto in A major, K622 | |
| Mahler, Gustav (1860-1911) | Symphony no. 5 in C sharp minor |
| Israel Philharmonic Orchestra | |
| Lahav Shani | Conductor |
| Martin Fröst | Clarinet |
One of the most beautiful instrumental concertos, interpreted by one of today’s leading clarinettists. Soloist Martin Fröst plays it on the instrument for which it was originally intended: the darker timbred basset clarinet. The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the orchestras that already took part in the first festival summer in Grafenegg. Music director Zubin Mehta conducted Gustav Mahler’s Seventh Symphony back then. In 2020, Lahav Shani followed Mehta in Israel, and at the end of the two-day guest performance, he conducts Mahler’s Fifth Symphony: the range of sentiments from the military signal and funeral march at the beginning to the haunting and natural sounds in the Scherzo and the rapturously romantic Adagietto to the exultant finale spans a whole world in sound.
