Kensington Symphony Orchestra is joined by Epiphoni Consort at Fairfield Halls for John Adams’s Harmonium (1980-81), a three-movement work for chorus and orchestra that is regarded as one of the composer’s key minimalist compositions.

The concert opens with Copland’s Billy the Kid (Suite) (1938). One of his most popular pieces, it incorporates cowboy tunes and American folk songs in its depiction of the passions and dangers of the Wild West.

KSO also performs Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story (1960), an orchestral suite in nine movements adapted from his smash-hit musical, a version of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet set on New York City’s Upper West Side.

Described as “one of the very best amateur groups in the country” by Classical Music magazine, KSO has been hailed by Classical Source for “putting on bold, adventurous programmes that few of the ‘big five’ in London would either think of or get away with”.
