Hot on the heels of Maestro Gergiev’s visit comes another supreme Russian artist: the virtuoso violinist Maxim Vengerov. Vengerov recently reclaimed his position as one of the world’s leading soloists following a four year absence caused by injury, when he focussed on his conducting career. Here, though, he will be showcasing his remarkable skill as a player when he joins the Orchestra for a stunning double bill which will turn the spotlight on two often-overlooked violin concerti: Britten’s abstract prelude to WW2, and Dvořák’s beguiling and brilliantly romantic work.
