In the series Welcome to Calefax-land, the Calefax reed quintet invites a Dutch celebrity each year. Not a musician, but someone with a passion for music. This person is not merely a guest, but develops the programme together with Calefax and is present at the concert for the presentation. This edition’s guest is presenter Milouska Meulens.
Milouska Meulens was born in Curaçao and moved to the Netherlands at the age of five. The many moves throughout her life brought her the richness of diverse cultures and traditions, yet it also instilled a sense of having lost her roots. Reed quintet Calefax plays music that reflects her personal journey, from Willemstad to Almere and from Ureterp to Amsterdam. An evening packed with music and stories, bringing together different times and styles. With a performance of the beautiful Tumba by the famous Curaçao composer Wim Statius Muller, Atardi, the unofficial national anthem of Curaçao, and Stevie Wonder’s Overjoyed.
