For Nemanja Radulović, music is a world without rigid boundaries. His passionate, intensely communicative playing is matched by a curiosity that reaches beyond traditional violin music, finding connections between different periods, styles and sounds.
Radulović shares this kaleidoscopic concert with his musical partners Devil’s Trills, in a programme driven by a simple idea: powerful music can come from anywhere.
Bach’s monumental Toccata and Fugue in D minor leaves the organ for a powerful new home among violin and strings, while Prokofiev’s ‘Montagues and Capulets’ stride out of the ballet theatre and into a more intimate setting.
Tchaikovsky’s soulful ‘Méditation’ reveals the composer’s original thoughts for the heartfelt slow movement of his exuberant Violin Concerto.
The violin’s many personalities come to the fore too, in the tenderness of Wieniawski’s Légende, the fiery playfulness of Brahms, and the flamboyant fiddle fireworks of Kreisler and Bériot.
And these classical miniature masterpieces sit naturally alongside other musical worlds: Morricone’s haunting Cinema Paradiso theme meets the seductive tango of Gardel’s ‘Por una cabeza’.
