Messiaen’s monumental, visionary cycle of piano pieces, played by arguably its finest living interpreter: Pierre-Laurent Aimard.

‘Here is the triumph of love and tears of joy – all the passion of our arms around the Invisible!’ Messiaen himself said that words couldn’t really do justice to his Vingt Regards: but in the hands of Pierre-Laurent Aimard, it’s an artistic experience that leaves few listeners unchanged.

Messiaen has been a constant presence throughout Pierre-Laurent Aimard’s career, and while he’s built a global reputation as a fearless explorer of new music, his relationship with Messiaen has deepened and intensified. His interpretation of Messiaen’s heaven-storming, evening-long contemplation of the Divine combines towering pianism with piercing insight; tonight’s audience will experience one of the wonders of the modern musical world.
