Deep in the Russian forests, a mysterious breeze stirs the waters. When guest conductor Eivind Gullberg Jensen works his magic anything’s possible: whether it’s Liadov’s old Russian fairy tales or Rachmaninov’s glittering Third Symphony – a song of longing for a lost world, with tunes to die for and a big-band swing. Or, most spectacular of all, the great Russian virtuoso Nikolai Lugansky throwing everything he has – and then some – at Prokofiev’s show-stopping piano concertos in our anniversary cycle.
