Sibelius’s Second

This listing is in the past
Royal Albert HallKensington Gore, London, Greater London, SW7 2AP, United Kingdom

Festival: BBC Proms

The prestigious Leipzig Gewandhausorchester – the world’s longest-established symphony orchestra, famous for the glossy richness of its ‘Leipzig sound’ – returns to the Proms under Music Director Andris Nelsons.

Joining them is violinist Isabelle Faust, soloist in Dvořák’s colourful, folk-inspired Violin Concerto.

The elemental power of Sibelius’s Symphony No. 2, with its heroic final movement, has become indelibly associated with Finland’s fight for freedom, no less personal a statement than the fragile, hypnotic beauty of Arvo Pärt’s tribute to Benjamin Britten.

NB: Hilary Hahn has had to withdraw from this Prom due to an ongoing injury.

Seats from £33 to £110 (plus booking fee). On sale 17 May 2025.
