Tchaikovsky never did anything by halves, and his final symphony is a no-holds-barred portrait of a man on the edge, told in music of devastating power and unforgettable beauty. Thomas Søndergård won’t stint on the emotion – but our charismatic Danish Principal Guest Conductor also has a special feeling for Scandinavian music. He’ll bring out both the radiance of Sibelius’ beautiful Sixth Symphony, and the sheer fantasy of Lindberg’s dazzling Clarinet Concerto, with Finnish superstar Kari Kriikku, who gave the work its premiere.

Thomas Søndergård (Conductor)

Danish conductor Thomas Søndergård is Principal Conductor and Musical Adviser of the Norwegian Radio Orchestra. In 2012/13 he will succeed Thierry Fischer as Principal Conductor of BBC National Orchestra of Wales and in the same season will become Principal Guest Conductor of Royal Scottish National Orchestra.

Kari Kriikku

Kari Kriikku’s musical inventiveness and fresh attitude towards traditional performance have established for him a fascinating and versatile career, not only as a soloist but also as Artistic Director of Avanti! Chamber Orchestra, all of which in June 2009 was further acknowledged as Kari Kriikku was announced recipient of the prestigious Nordic Council Music Prize.
