The Trauerode is undoubtedly one of Bach's most moving compositions. Composed in memory of the Queen of Poland, this great two-part cantata is on a par with the Cantor's Passions . It is even said that Johann Sebastian kept the entire music to compose his St. Mark Passion, which is sadly lost. From beginning to end, the work is marked by an intense fervor enhanced by the richness of the orchestration, which includes, in addition to strings, two oboes d'amore, two violas da gamba, and two lutes. A masterpiece too rarely performed, interpreted by one of the great European ensembles: the Wrocław Baroque Ensemble.
