Un Momento Dado by Johan de Meij

The Dutch composer Johan de Meij composed Un Momento Dado as an in memoriam for Johan Cruijff. This unique piece, commissioned by Calefax, is the first of its kind for reed quintet and wind orchestra. Sizzling, emotional and exhilarating – Un Momento Dado is a rollercoaster ride through different styles.

In his grand new work, De Meij weaves the name Calefax into a recurring motif using the notes C-A-E-F-A. This motif, in its many iterations, surges in a virtuoso sonic cascade towards a triumphant finale. Alban Wesly: ‘Personally, I like the idea that every reed quintet that will perform this piece in the future will be, in effect, honouring the people who invented the reed quintet.’
