The premiere performance of Rossini's opera buffa Il Turco in Italia at the New National Theatre, Tokyo. A tangled love affair develops through a series of ensembles as a complex cast of characters take the stage, including a playboy Turkish prince, a straight-laced husband being toyed with by his coquettish wife and the Turkish prince's former lover.
Laurent Pelly's production develops the fundamental meta-structure of the work, creating a witty, fantastical story of a heroine obsessed with a photo novel. The heroine Fiorilla is portrayed by Claudia Muschio, who received rave reviews for her performance in La Sonnambula in 2024. Featuring an impressive lineup of Rossini specialists, with Turkish prince Selim sung by Giorgi Manoshvili, and the heroine's husband Geronio performed by Paolo Bordogna. This production comes to life under the baton of young, up-and-coming conductor Alessandro Bonato.
Co-production with Teatro Real of Madrid, Opéra National de Lyon
