Lamentations of the Prophet Jeremiah [Easter concert]

For half a century, Paul Van Nevel and his Huelgas Ensemble have been a cornerstone in the authentic performance practice of early polyphonic choral music. The lamentations composed by Orlando di Lasso in memory of the destruction of Jerusalem – more than six hundred years before the birth of Jesus – hold a timeless grace, showing us music’s power to turn sorrow into sublime beauty. In calm, flowing lines, Di Lasso’s notes interweave the sad story of destruction with a sense of hope for redemption and reconciliation. It is a longing for a better world that feels more relevant than ever in today’s turbulent times.
