The Dutch violinist Janine Jansen is known for her dazzling technique, expressive playing and intense stage presence. She has long been among the world’s leading violinists. Since her debut at Konserthuset in 2008, she has returned on several occasions. On 27 February, she performs violin sonatas by Beethoven, and in May she returns once more to the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.
In this concert, we hear her together with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and Honorary Conductor Sakari Oramo in Beethoven’s virtuosic, grand and magically beautiful Violin Concerto.
As a fitting introduction to Beethoven’s concerto, we hear an overture by the Polish composer Grażyna Bacewicz – music that, with its refined elegance, draws the listener into a world of striking rhythms and shimmering sonorities.
Carl Nielsen’s Fifth Symphony is one of his most central works and is regarded as one of the great symphonies of the 20th century. It is characterised by its powerful contrasts and is especially known for the snare drum, which takes on an unusually dramatic role and proves crucial to the entire symphony.
