Handel, Schubert, Stravinsky, Villa-Lobos, Bullumba Landestoy, Ginastera, and an original tango by Daniil Trifonov: rarely does a single recital unite such a rich palette of styles, eras, and musical worlds. Trifonov moves between baroque and contemporary, and between stillness and fiery Latin American rhythms, with apparent ease.
Not only is Trifonov one of the most prominent pianists of his generation, but he is also a fine composer. His own tango lends the programme a personal and playful touch, revealing another facet of his artistry.
Internationally, Trifonov is lauded for his extraordinary combination of technical mastery and poetic imagination. Critics describe his playing as visionary, intense, and deeply felt. His concerts are seen worldwide as unique musical experiences.
At the age of twenty, he won both the Rubinstein and Tchaikovsky competitions. Since then, he has received a Grammy, among other accolades, and was named Artist of the Year by Gramophone and Musical America. When he plays, it is as if the piano speaks, sings, and glows.
