Monday at Last is the concert series where Cecilia Zilliacus and Kati Raitinen invite guest artists to join them in performances of both new and older music. This time, the Monday guests are cellist Andreas Brantelid, violist Albin Uusijärvi and violinist Marcus Bäckerud.
Andreas Brantelid made history in 2006 when he became the youngest-ever winner of the prestigious Eurovision Young Musicians competition. Since then, he has performed with leading orchestras around the world, earning acclaim from both critics and audiences. Here, he is the soloist in Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations in a version for cello and string quartet – virtuosic and imaginative music inspired by Mozart’s elegant, playful style.
Also on the programme is American composer Amanda Harberg’s energetic On the Edge for two cellos, and a lyrically expressive and intense Sonatina for Violin and Cello by Swiss-French composer Arthur Honegger, who spent most of his career in France. The concert also features Finland-Swedish composer Pehr Henrik Nordgren’s powerful String Quintet – given extra weight by its double cello parts.
